New Delhi is the capital city of the Republic of India, which is situated within the metropolis of Delhi. It was designed by Edwin Lutyens, a top 20th century British draftsman. It serves as the seat of the Government of India as well as the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, and thereby running out to be the source of power for Indian politics. In addition to this, New Delhi is home to numerous national establishments and milestones.
New Delhi was laid out to the south of the Old City which was constructed by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. New Delhi is planned in the region of two central boulevards referred as the Rajpath and the Janpath. However, New Delhi overlays the site of seven ancient cities and hence includes many historic monuments like the Jantar Mantar and the Lodhi Gardens. Most of the New Delhi was planned by Edwin Lutyens, a leading 20th century British architect and it has been give the name as “Lutyens' Delhi". New Delhi is administered by its own municipal management, referred as the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
