Delhi Tourist Attractions : Maps of New Delhi


Delhi has been the hub of important political, cultural and economic activities from over centuries that is displayed in the numerous tourist attractions it comprises of. Some popular tourist attractions in Delhi can be enlisted as:

India Gate commemorates the 90,000 soldiers of the Indian British Army, who died during World War I, and was initially referred to as All India War Memorial. It has the names of soldiers inscribed all along this free-standing arch structure. This structure was constructed in 1911 and measures 42 metre high. The design of this structure was prepared by Edward Luytens.

Old Fort or Purana Qila, now in ruins was once a magnificent fort constructed by Sher Shah Suri during 1538 to 1545 AD. At the base of the hill is a lake wherein the Delhi Tourism organizes for boating facilities for tourists.

Jantar Mantar is an observatory that was constructed by the Rajput King of Jaipur, Sawai Jai Singh in the year1724. It was believed to have been the great technological feat in those times, and retains its significance even today.

Humayun's Tomb is a precursor of the well-known Taj Mahal in Agra. This tomb was constructed his widow Hajji Begum in the span of 1565-66.  It is placed in the centre of a large square garden that is enclosed within high walls on three sides.

Safdarjang's Tomb reflects the last garden tomb in Delhi that was undertaken in amore or less grand scale that was constructed in 1753-54.

Rashtrapati Bhawan or the President's Official Residence that is spread over 330 acres of area was also designed by Edward Luytens. It was initially the official residence of the Viceroy during the British rule. The Mughal Gardens that is situated within the area are open to public during specific periods of the year.

Red Fort was constructed by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan during 1638 and 1648. It is popularly referred to as Lal Qila owing to the usage of the red sandstone in its constriction. However, some structures in the interior are constructed in marble. In fact, it is the site from wherein the Prime Minister of Indian addresses the nation on every 15th August, Indian Independence Day.
