Delhi's urban area, known as the National capital region (NCR) encompasses the entire NCR as well as the neighboring satellite towns of Faridabad and Gurgaon in Haryana, and NOIDA and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. The origin of the National Capital Region lies in the suggestion of the first Master Plan for Delhi (MPD) reported in 1962 in which, an extensive area comprising of the Union Territory of Delhi and a small number of ring towns was envisaged for being urbanized as a metropolitan section to condense the populace strain on Delhi.
Yet another reason for establishment of the NCT (National Capital Territory) was a dream to make surrounding areas of Delhi urbanized. Amidst the various developments that have been witnessed in the region are inclusive of IT, real estate and other industries that have maintained its NCR National Capital Region status. Majority these incorporated areas were initially underdeveloped towns and villages, which have been converted into world class shopping malls as well as residential regions. These areas were developed with a view to relocate people coming to Delhi from diverse divisions of the country.
