Being operational since the year 2002, Delhi Metro has become the life line of the city. It offers a comfortable and easy to journey to the desired destination. At present, there are about three operation lines of Delhi metro.

DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) has been acknowledged with the prestigious ISO 14001 certificate for its Environment Management System from RINA, Geneva. It turned out to be the second underground rapid transit system after Kolkata in India. Trains in use within the network characteristically move at speeds less than 80 km/h, or 50 mph, and terminate about 20 seconds at every MRTS station. The MRTS rolling stock are developed by ROTEM, depending upon 1676 mm (5 ft 6 in) track gauge (broad gauge).
The completed Phase I of the network encompasses 65.11 km of route length with 13.01 km underground known as Metro corridor and 52.10 km surface/elevated referred as Rail Corridor. Phase II of the network that is likely to be completed in the year 2010 includes 121 km of route length and 79 stations. Going on to the Phase III and IV which are proposed to be achieved by 2015 and 2020 correspondingly, comprise of the network across 381 km by then, putting it only after the London's Underground.
Every train comprises of four coaches that support up to 240 seated and 400 standing commuters. All metro stations as well as the trains are constantly monitored through closed-circuit cameras, along with specially trained Delhi Metro police handle the law and order matters in the system. It is one of the few metros in the world to have plain dressed metro-marshals on board. Provision of Intercoms has been made in each train car for cataclysm communication involving the passengers and the driver. The automated recorded station announcements can be heard in both Hindi and English for the convenience of the passengers.
